This course examines how contemporary creative writers work across multiple creative modes, such as text, image, sound, video, and interactive structures. Students will explore multimodal composition, platform dependent writing, and emerging digital practices, including the creative use of Generative AI tools. Writing remains central, with any other elements used only to support or extend the written work.
The course emphasises experimentation, process, and reflective practice: students learn how hybrid and digital forms reshape writing and reading. Through guided workshops and multimodal or digital assignments, students develop a portfolio of hybrid and digital works, centred on writing, and articulate the aesthetic, technical, and ethical choices behind their creative practice. Generative AI tools are introduced early to support creative experimentation and ethical awareness, while the course as a whole engages accessible multimodal practices across text, image, sound, digital forms, and other modes of presentation. The specific texts, tools, and examples used in the course will vary in response to each cohort’s needs and to the evolving techno cultural conditions that shape contemporary creative writing.
