Course Description

This course supports students in gaining authentic work-based experience within relevant creative, communications, arts or English-related organisations. Through structured reflection and active engagement in professional practice, students apply theoretical knowledge, develop critical and creative communication skills, and build a portfolio evidencing professional growth. Emphasis is placed on ethical conduct, creative problemsolving, and reflective practice.

Objectives

  • Develop practical skills and professional understanding within a creative/communications context.
  • Foster reflective and ethical approaches to work and learning.
  • Integrate academic conceptual frameworks into everyday professional practice.
  • Cultivate critical self-awareness and adaptability in dynamic workplace environments.
  • Evidence professional competencies through authentic artefacts and reflective analysis.
Organisation

Attendance: Students are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours in an office-based internship (no remote work permitted).

Structure: Briefing session, work placement, periodic submission of learning logs, mid-term and final reports, and a creative portfolio.

Preparation: Students arrange their own placements, submit CV/cover letter to hosts, and engage fully in expected activities.

Study Schedule: Students bear full responsibility for ensuring that their internship working hours do not clash with scheduled classes, seminars, or other required academic commitments at HKU. Internships must be organised so as to accommodate and prioritise the study schedule throughout the term. Coursework always takes precedence; conflicts must be proactively managed.
