Bloomsday & Beyond: Celebrating Ireland, Island of Writers
A Message From the Consulate General of Ireland

Dear colleagues, students, alumni and friends of the School of English,

Greetings from the Consulate General of Ireland.

The Consulate is excited to share the upcoming “Bloomsday & Beyond: Celebrating Ireland, Island of Writers” events with you.

Bloomsday, marked annually around the world on June 16th celebrates Irish writer James Joyce and his novel Ulysses, which was set on that date in 1904. The day is named after the novel’s main character, Leopold Bloom. It is also an iconic festival to celebrate Ireland’s rich contemporary and classic literary heritage.

In collaboration with the HKU School of English, the Consulate is pleased to present an exhibition about James Joyce and his book Ulysses on LG/F, Centennial Campus (next to Lecture Hall II (LG.07), via MTR HKU Station Exit C1) from June 9th, 2025 at 2pm to June 16th, 2025 at 9:30am. Come and learn more about this legendary Irish author!

Then on Monday June 16th, 2025, from 12nn to 7pm, the Consulate will partner with Bookazine Social in Tai Kwun to mark Bloomsday itself. There will be a special feature of Irish books and authors, with a book giveaway after 5pm. Remember to stop by and win a free book!
