Proposals may include panels, paper presentations (oral or poster), or work-in-progress roundtable. Please, select up to three themes for your abstract during the submission process.
For all submissions, clearly indicate:
PRIZES: Selected Best Student presentation will be awarded the Faculty of Arts prizes. The prizes will include a bursary covering the registration for the conference and conference dinner. The abstract will be judged according to the selection criteria for paper presentations. If you are a student, please note STUDENT on your abstract. The winner will be announced at the conference dinner.
1) PANELS
Panels should address a common theme, content or methodological area, and will be scheduled for 90 minutes.
Panels submission process: Please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words providing an overall description of the panel’s content and objectives. Provide information about the panel members and chair, stating full institutional affiliations and e-mail addresses.
Panels selection criteria: Panels are reviewed on the basis of their relevance to issues in communication, medicine, and ethics; the structural organization of the submission; and the usefulness of the panel to participants.
2) PAPER PRESENTATIONS
Abstracts will be selected for either oral or poster presentations, but authors are kindly invited to indicate their preference. Authors of poster presentations will be expected to stay and discuss their poster during their assigned session. Oral presentations will typically be scheduled in 90-minute sessions, with 30 minutes (20 min. + 10 min. Q & A) allocated to each individual presentation.
Paper presentation submission process: Individual abstract submissions should be no more than 250 words. Please indicate in your submission whether you would like to be considered for oral presentation, poster presentation, or both. You may choose to submit more than one proposal, but normally only one proposal will be accepted for oral presentation. Any additional accepted proposals will be accepted as poster(s).
3) WORK-IN-PROGRESS ROUNDTABLE
Proposals should be no more than 250 words targeted at oral presentation. The roundtables will be in sessions of 90 minutes, with individual presentations lasting 30 minutes (15 min. + 15 min. discussion). This format is particularly suitable for early career researchers pursuing doctoral and postdoctoral studies and for experienced researchers undertaking/planning pilot projects or have preliminary findings to report. Please indicate clearly if your proposal falls into this category.
Abstracts should include structured subheadings as described below. If you do not believe that these sub-headings are appropriate for your paper, you may select other sub-headings.

Abstract selection criteria: Paper abstracts are reviewed on the basis of the originality of the topic and its relevance to the conference theme; the contextualization of the study; its relevance in communication, medicine, and ethics; the relationship between title and content; the structural organization; theoretical/methodological appropriateness; clarity of claims/findings; and significance of the study. Panels and paper presentations for the Conference will be selected based on a double blind peer-review process.
Decisions about acceptance will be notified by February 16 - 23, 2015.
