Official Announcement for the 2012 International HKU Poetry Prize

We thank all writers for sending their manuscripts and giving us at HKU a chance to read emerging collections of poems.  It is a great honor to read new poems and to see the work of fellow poets around the world.

The Final Judge this year is the renowned writer of poetry and fiction, Ha Jin.
Ha Jin’s novel Waiting won the National Book Award in 1999 and the PEN/ Faulkner in 2000. He was awarded the PEN/ Faulkner again in 2005 for War Trash. His newest books are A Free Life (2007) and The Writer as Migrant (2008), a collection of lectures. A new collection of short stories, A Good Fall, was published in November 2009. His most recent novel is Nanjing Requiem (Pantheon 2011).

This year, for the 2012 International HKUPP, no manuscript was selected for a first-book publication.

The Final Judge has selected My Love Affair with Gertrude Stein by Fani Papageorgiou for recognition of merit from among all the submissions world-wide.

We congratulate the poet Fani Papageorgiou for excellence and recognition by Ha Jin in his decisions.

We recognize and thank all the writers who submitted to the prize this year, and we already look forward reading new work in the coming year for the next international HKU poetry prize.

We again sincerely thank Ha Jin for his time and commitment to the HKUPP and for his encouragement to all poets' work ahead.

Please check the website in the coming weeks for updates on the next prize and excerpts from My Love Affair with Gertrude Stein by Fani Papageorgiou.
