Cultural Identity and Transnationalism in the Lusophone World

Theoretical discussions of postcolonialism are primarily concerned with the Anglophone world and don't fully apprehend the nuances of other colonial and postcolonial experiences. My remarks will center on results of the experience of Portuguese colonialism. Through focus on the constructs "Lusotropicalism" and "Lusophony," I will briefly sketch a frame of reference for understanding the transnational flow of ideas about ethnicity, race, and cultural identity between the nations of the Portuguese-speaking world
